The Challenge
Being a global esports program, well-established in the United States and Europe, it was a priority for Forza Racing Championship to expand to include Chinese esports teams. Producing an event from China is always a challenge. Simple things like internet access, logistics, and crew are difficult to arrange, and the language and cultural barriers are formbidable. Here is how we helped make it a reality.
Our Solution
We were tasked to make a site survey visit to Shanghai to scope out the event space, and work with the local crew to understand the technical requirements for the events, and to establish a workflow for transfering recorded content to Seattle for broadcast and live streaming to the global audience.
China Joy is the largest gaming conference in the world, and the largest event for the Chinese gaming market. The China Joy gaming expo is a major event for the gaming industry, and the Forza Racing Championship is a major esports event. The China Joy Finals was a chance to showcase the Forza Racing Championship to the world, and to bring their budding esports community together.
For the week of the event, our team put boots on the ground in Shanghai to gather B-roll footage, and support the local production team, assist with torunament operations and adjudication, and handle asset management and uploading
Meanwhile our Seattle-based production team was busy at the Mixer Studios in Redmond, WA, receiving overnight content from Shanghai, and producing a re-broadcasted stream with a live shoutcasting team.
