The Challenge

World’s First raid races in Destiny 2 unfold across dozens of independent Twitch feeds with each competitive team progressing at its own pace. There is no predetermined timing or schedule, making traditional linear live production approaches inadequate for capturing the dynamic, chaotic nature of the event.

The goal of the Raid Zone broadcast is to surface the most exciting and pivotal moments in real time, elevate caster commentary, and ensure viewers always see the high-stakes action — all while scaling across simultaneous competitors and live race developments.

Our Solution

Atomic developed a custom multiviewer software system that ingests and monitors dozens of live Twitch and Bili-Bili feeds simultaneously. Operators can dynamically combine these feeds into solo, 1, 2, 4, 6, or 9 multi-box layouts that can be controlled live on the broadcast, effectively creating a sports-style ‘Red Zone’ view of all competing teams.

The multiviewer enables rapid selection and framing of feeds based on live progress, ensuring the broadcast always showcases the most relevant and exciting action across the race. Our technical director can quickly pull up any twitch feed, and quickly higlight the audio, video and name of the feed. Integration with Bitfocus companion makes switching between multview looks seamless and foolproof.

A dedicated team of spotters watches the feed pool and reports live team progress to our casting team, who capture all the excitement and action in real time through expert commentary and narrative context.

The show streams on Twitch and YouTube channels hosted by cbgray and evanf1997, giving the Destiny community a centralized, easy-to-access broadcast experience for each World’s First race.

Bungie’s operations team validates race results and confirms winners on stream, tying official standings and rewards into the live broadcast workflow.

Raid Zone consistently achieves extremely high organic viewership, regularly surpassing 50,000 simultaneous viewers for the full duration of broadcasts, underscoring the show’s value and engagement within the Destiny 2 community.
