The Challenge

The Pokémon Company partnered with Niantic to produce teh first live stream broadcast from a flagship GO Fest event, which was held at Libarty State Park in New Jersey. Anytime you're broadcasting from a outdoor, temporary venue, you need to be prepared for the unexpected. We were tasked with providing a team of production crew, broadcast engineers, and broadcast production staff to help produce the event.

Our Solution

GO Fest is a multi-day event featuring tens of thousands of daily Pokémon GO players, and the first time the game was broadcast live to a global audience. The event was held at Liberty State Park in New Jersey, just across the Hudson River from New York City and the Statue of Liberty, and featured a variety of activities, including shiny hunts, raids, and other activatinos.

Digitally ticketed attendees were abel to attend morning or afternoon sessions, and our global audience was able to remtotely attend the event from wherever they were in the worlds.

Ourdoor broadcast production is always a challenge: weather proofing, power distribution, internet and network connectivity, transportation logistics, are all more dificult than shooting in a studio.

Our advanced production team surveyed the grounds of the venue and coordinated with the Niantic team and crew of Red Peg to plan and build a temporary production studio and control room at 'Noble Fields'

We produced a number of pre-recorded segments, games, interviews, and tours that were edited and turned around for playback in the live broadcast.

Extreme weather conditions, including rain, lightning, and high winds, were a challenge, but our team was able to adapt and produce a high-quality broadcast.

The broadcast was well received by the global community, racking up some of the highest viewership numbers for a Pokémon's Twitch and YouTube channels.
