Twitch Prime Crown Cup | 2020 Home Edition

July 18 2020

How we helped Amazon bring dozens of celebrities including Trevor Noah and Sara Silverman together for a virtual gaming event.

The Challenge

The Crown Cup 2020, dubbed as the “At Home Edition” due to travel and COVID-19 restrictions, brought together six teams of three, each featuring a pro Twitch Streamer, a celebrity comedian and a lucky Twitch Prime member.

Our Solution

An array of seven workstations was assembled to create a virtual studio for guests, such that they could see themselves in the context of the show. Camera and audio feeds were routed to the main production switcher for final compositing before streaming out a complete show. Apex Legends gameplay was captured in the studio, by working with Respawn Entertainment, to provide access to private servers arranged for this event.

The show featured over 20 remote guests, starring special guests Trevor Noah and Sarah Silverman, through custom server codes. Once our featured teams were set, participant codes were distributed to at-home viewers to fill out the remaining squads in the lobby. Four in-studio observer stations allowed us to see gameplay from any of our six teams playing from home. Our broadcast reached 5 million viewers and had a peak concurrent viewership of roughly 150k viewers over the three-hour event.
